When the World Gets Foggy, Your Body Knows the Way

Why coherence—not more information—is the antidote to the AI age

The other day, I heard someone say that over the next two years, the fog of AI will become so thick that if your plane isn't already in the air, you'll be grounded.
I felt the truth of that in my body before my mind could argue with it.
We're already seeing it, aren't we? The deep fakes. The fake news. The growing sense that we can't trust what we see, what we read, or sometimes even what we think we know. My clients come in anxious—not about any one thing, but about the ambient uncertainty of it all. And I get it. There are days when I feel it too.
But here's what I've come to understand, both through decades of clinical practice and through my own lived experience: the antidote to external chaos is internal coherence.
The Truth Bell
When I finished my master's in Somatic Psychology, I had this burning desire to research something I'd noticed in myself. In moments when I was fully embodied—when all my systems were aligned and coherent—no one could fool me. There was a knowing that would rise up, clear as a bell. I started calling it my truth bell.
The truth bell rings when something is real. When it's right. When it's the actual thing, not the performance of the thing.
And here's what I believe: that truth bell exists in every human being. It's not a gift some people have and others don't. It's inherent—woven into the very center of our cellular being.
The problem is, we override it constantly. Not because we're ignorant or not paying attention, but because we've been systematically taught that this kind of knowing doesn't count. That it's not "evidence." That it's not real.
When I tried to write my doctoral dissertation on this topic, I was told my ideas weren't "doctoral material." I was refused entry to the program.
So I did what stubborn people do: I went and got two doctorates anyway—one in holistic nutrition, one in mind-body medicine. And the truth bell never stopped ringing.
Beyond Heart Coherence
These days, there's wonderful work being done on coherence. HeartMath has brought heart rate variability into the mainstream. Others are doing beautiful work with biofield tuning. And all of it matters.
But here's what I keep coming back to: there's more.
When I talk about coherence, I'm talking about the full multidimensionality of your living system. You're not a collection of parts to be fixed or adjusted. You're a flowing, dynamic, constantly-calibrating whole.
So when someone tells me, "I'm doing everything right—eating well, exercising, sleeping—but something still feels off," my first question is: What are your other systems doing? How are they interplaying?
Because coherence isn't about optimizing one dial. It's about the symphony.
The Fog and the Signal
Here's my prediction: the fog is going to get thicker before it gets clearer. The ambiguity, the distrust, the overwhelm—it's not going away anytime soon.
But here's what I also know: when your internal systems are coherent, your signal becomes stronger than the noise.
You stop needing external validation for what you know. You stop second-guessing the bell when it rings. You become your own navigation system in a world that's lost its GPS.
This is the work. Not consuming more information. Not finding the "right" sources to trust. But coming back to the instrument you already are—and tuning it.
The truth bell is ringing. The only question is whether you're listening.
